Leading Conditions Currently Prompting Patients to Seek Out Iowa HBOT

Special thanks to our good friend, Dr. CJ Kleene at Back In Line, an interdisciplinary clinic in Hiawatha, IA, for providing this blog content for us to use.

Like Dr. Kleene, we are committed to staying at the forefront of holistic healthcare, and introducing HBOT is a testament to that commitment. HBOT is a non-invasive therapy that involves breathing air only, and/or medical-grade oxygen in a pressurized room or chamber. The increased oxygen levels in your body during the treatment promote healing and provide a range of potential benefits, from enhanced recovery to improved overall wellness.

Candidates for HBOT are for patients suffering from Long Covid, Autoimmune Conditions, Infertility, Cancer and post-cancer treatments, Lyme and other co-infections, Autism, Concussion, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, and more.

Why HBOT?:

  • Accelerated Healing: HBOT has been shown to speed up the body's natural healing processes, making it a valuable addition for those recovering from injuries or surgeries.

  • Reduced Inflammation: The therapy may help reduce inflammation in the body, providing relief for various conditions.

  • Enhanced Energy Levels: By increasing oxygen levels, HBOT can contribute to heightened energy levels and improved cognitive function.

  • Immune System Support: Boosting oxygen levels can strengthen the immune system, aiding in the body's defense against infections and illnesses.

Use of HBOT

There are a variety of uses for HBOT and how it can help with longevity and lifestyle. Listed below are research articles about various uses for HBOT and the benefits that come along with hyper oxygenation. This is not an exhaustive list by any means.

TBI and Post Concussion Syndrome - Studies have shown that HBOT can increase neuroplasticity which can lead to significant improvements in neurological improvement and help to repair chronically impaired brain function, and improve quality of life.

COVID-19 - HBOT can induce neuroplasticity and improve cognitive, psychiatric, sleep, fatigue, and pain for patients who are suffering from post-COVID-19 conditions. The effects of HBOT can be attributed to the increase in brain perfusion and neuroplasticity in the regions associated with cognitive and emotional roles.

Post Stroke and Stroke - Research has shown that HBOT can lead to significant increases in neurological improvements in post stroke patients, even when symptoms are at the chronic late stages. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy carries cognitive and therapeutic effects for patients with acquired brain injuries.

Autism - When paired up against pharmaceutical medications, HBOT has been shown to lessen the core symptoms of Autism better than pharmaceutical medications. HBOT has also been shown to improve eye contact, overall functioning, receptive language, social interaction, and many more.

Oncology - HBOT sessions have been shown to decrease tumor size, specifically in patients with lung cancer.

Lyme Disease - Patients who have/had Lyme disease and participated in HBOT treatments have shown improvement of symptoms. Including mental confusion, pain, depression and fatigue.

Pre-Operative Conditioning and Post Surgical Recovery / Wound Healing - HBOT treatments before surgeries have been shown to have positive effects on increasing the recovery process of the surgical wound. By doing HBOT sessions, you are increasing the amount of oxygen that is being absorbed by your blood. Therefore, HBOT sessions can be linked to increased recovery time for wounds and injuries.

Dementia / Cognitive impairment - HBOT has been shown to have positive effects in relation to improvements for cognitive impairment.

Fibromyalgia / ME / Chronic Fatigue - HBOT plays an important role in the treatment process of Fibromyalgia. After 15 sessions, patients with Fibromyalgia who participated in HBOT sessions noted an increase in their pain threshold compared to before their first session.

Sport Injuries - Recently, the use of HBOT for athletes has been brought up in more discussions. Mainly, wondering if HBOT should be used as the primary form of treatment for sports related injuries. In recent studies, the use of HBOT for sports related injury treatment has shown promising results for recovery in high-performance athletes.

Ligament and Bone Injuries - HBOT treatments can result in stronger collagen fibrils by decreasing the amount of Type III and Type I collagen content. Which could be beneficial to the treatment plan for individuals who have MCL tears, ACL tears, or any type of ligament tear.

Hamstring and Elbow injuries - When combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection therapy and rehabilitation, HBOT has shown incredible results in the recovery process of individuals who have had or currently have a hamstring injury. With 62% of participants having no signs of re-injury to the hamstring after they had completed their treatment plan.

Muscle Regeneration - When studied, HBOT sessions have been shown to have an increase on ischemic muscle regeneration

Stem Cell Mobilization - Depending on the atmospheric pressure of the HBOT session, increased pressures are shown to have more benefit on the effects of stem cell mobilization than that of lower pressures for HBOT sessions.

Spinal Cord Injuries - Long-term use of hyperbaric treatments can be linked to prevention of deterioration after spinal cord injury. Because of the reliability and safety, minimal associated complications, and long-term efficacy, HBOT can be a promising new treatment for spinal cord injuries.

Chronic Pain - Patients who experience pain or edema may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen sessions. When studied, patients who participated in HBOT sessions noted a decrease in pain compared to when they had first started their sessions, as well as an increase in range of motion.

How long do the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy last?

The effects of HBOT can vary depending on the condition being treated and individual factors. Here are some general considerations regarding the duration of HBOT effects:

  • Immediate effects: After a session of HBOT, you may experience short-term effects that can last for a few hours. These may include a temporary increase in energy levels, improved cognitive function, and a feeling of relaxation.

  • Cumulative effects: The therapeutic benefits of HBOT accumulate. This means that the impact of HBOT may become more pronounced and longer-lasting with repeated treatments. New blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) and other signs of healing occur after multiple treatments.

  • Condition-specific effects: The duration of HBOT effects can also vary depending on the condition being treated. For acute conditions, such as decompression sickness or carbon monoxide poisoning, the effects of HBOT may be immediate and can last until the situation is resolved. In chronic conditions, such as non-healing wounds or neurological disorders, the effects of HBOT may be more long-term but could require ongoing or periodic treatments to maintain the benefits.

  • Individual response: Each person's response to HBOT can differ. Some individuals may experience longer-lasting benefits, while others may see more temporary effects. Factors such as overall health, underlying medical conditions, and compliance with post-treatment care can influence the duration of HBOT effects.
